GLEAM3 Emissions (Global - 2015)

This dataset contains GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions from livestock, calculated with the GLEAM model (version 3.0) for a reference year 2015. These calculations follow the IPCC guidelines (2019), EMEP/EEA Air Pollutant Emission Inventory Guidebook 2016, and Uwizeye et al 2020, and are based on a Tier2 approach. Emissions of nitrous oxide (N₂O) and methane (CH₄) were converted to CO₂eq adopting IPCC AR6 Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 273 and 27 respectively. The GHG emissions calculated in GLEAM are allocated to the animal products such as meat, milk, and eggs based on their protein content, taking into account also non-edible products (draught power, fibers, and manure).

The livestock species included in the assessment are buffaloes, cattle, chicken, goats, pigs and sheep.

Pixel with less than 20 tons/km² and/or with less than one animal per km² were masked out. For total emissions, the animal density threshold was taken from the combined number of all species, expressed in livestock units (LU).
