Suitability for solar irrigation using surface water and groundwater (West-Africa, Sahel region)

Suitability for solar irrigation using surface water and groundwater up to a depth of 7, 25, 50, 100 and 250 m.

The Sahel solar suitability potential maps uses a multi-criteria analysis to combine a number of layers including groundwater levels, aquifer productivity, groundwater storage, proximity to rivers, inland valleys and reservoirs, soil texture, soil drainage, soil depth, soil organic carbon, soil available water content and socio-economic indicators to map potential areas that are suitable for solar based irrigation. Areas that cannot be used for solar irrigation (eg. Forests, conservation areas) are excluded using three main constraints.

Maps are available at various groundwater depths and surface water distance considering surface water, groundwater and a combination of groundwater and surface water resources.
