Cooperative Recovery Initiative: FY 15 Annual Report - Bartrams Scrub-Hairstreak Butterfly

This project aims to restore 64 acres of pine rockland habitat through use of prescribed fire and mechanical vegetation treatments, and create three additional habitat patches to expand available habitat for the Bartram’s scrub-hairstreak butterfly. The response of pineland croton, the hostplant for Bartram’s scrub-hairstreak, will be measured within mechanical vegetation thinning treatments, prescribed fire, and a combination of these two treatments. Contracted work to propagate, install and monitor 3,000 pineland croton plants within additional habitat patches will provide an expansion of suitable habitat as stepping stone patches for this species.
