| notes | A gap-free, region-wide combined topographic/bathymetric grid at a fixed resolution is useful for describing the topography of the seafloor and for a wide variety of oceanographic studies. Generating a bathymetric grid of this type consists of (1) locating and retrieving digital datasets from a variety of sources, (2) correcting errors and determining the dataset that best represents the topography in specific regions, (3) converting the depth data to common horizontal and vertical datums, and (4) selecting and applying a gridding algorithm to create the final seamless grid. |
