Big-Game Refuges Get Benefits of WPA Work [U.S. Department of Agriculture : Office of Information : Press Service]

This press release details the improvement of four Federal big-game preserves in North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and Oklahoma by the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.). The W.P.A. was an agency of the American New Deal seeking to put the unemployed to work on useful projects.

W.P.A. projects were under way at the National Elk Refuge in December of 1936. They included the construction of fence, a log repair shop, and sheds for storing hay.

Also discussed in this release are W.P.A. projects on Sully's Hill Game Preserve, Fort Niobrara Game Preserve, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and the National Bison Range.
