CTD Oceanographic Data (Stock Assessment and Improvement Program)

This project currently supports two main efforts:

  1. A bi-weekly sampling regime of the hydrology and plankton along a transect over the Continental Shelf starting at Newport. This consistent survey has generated significant information on within year variability in the California Current Marine Ecosystem that has yielded valuable insights into the food web involving juvenile salmon. Parameters collected during this effort are used in forecasts for a number of species, assemblages, and ecosystems.

  2. The SAIP work has supported studies of the prey field that juvenile salmon interact with. Some of this data is used in forecasts of juvenile salmon returns, and it is also helping to make possible some preliminary evaluations of hatchery wild interactions and other density-dependent questions.
