Deployable Composite Booms (DCB)

This project aims to develop high power, High Data Rate, High Delta V Propulsion Capabilities for Low-Cost, Small Satellite Deep Space Science and Exploration Support Missions. A goal is to mature deployable shell-based composite boom technology for use in low-cost, small volume, rideshare-class (e.g., CubeSat, ESPA) satellite deployable systems. NASA and DLR will jointly develop one or more shell-based deployable composite boom concepts satisfying very small satellite requirements, and demonstrate capabilities via analysis and test. A final goal is to mature at least one concept to a TRL 5/6.
