DNR State Park Features

This dataset includes GPS data collected during the Alaska State Park Trail Inventory Project that was conducted in conjunction with National Park Service (NPS) Rivers and Trails Conservation Assistance (RTCA) program, Alaska Department of Natural Resources (ADNR) Land Record Information Service (LRIS), Department of Parks and Outdoor Recreation (DPOR), and Alaska State Parks. Project objectives were to map existing Alaska State Parks trails, perform trail condition assessments, conduct condition assessments of constructed features associated with trails, and provide trail data and maps. Trail centerlines were mapped in a near continuous fashion by DGPS (differential global positioning system) receivers, with segmentation of attributes (e.g. grade, trail width). Key trail constructed features including signs, bridges, trailhead parking areas, and associated constructed features (e.g. restrooms, gates, kiosks). Digital photos of pre-defined constructed features have been taken in the field. These photos will be managed with GPS-tagging software to provide a user-friendly photo management system for park staff access. GPS training of mappers and project support was provided by NPS.
