Sentinel-3 Satellite Fire Detections

This data collection contains active fire imagery and thermal hotspot detections collected by the Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B satellites, which are part of the multi-instrument Sentinel-3 satellite constellation operated by the the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE), the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), and the European Space Agency (ESA). The Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission is to measure surface color and temperature and sea surface topography for ocean forecasting, environmental monitoring, and climate monitoring. The Sea and Land Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) aboard Sentinel-3 provides thermal infrared imagery (500m visible-, near-, and short-wave- infrared) using dedicated 1km fire-optimized channels and a fire radiative power (FRP) product to detective active fire hotspots. Sentinel-3 also uses the Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI) to record marine, land, and atmospheric data.

Documentation for the Sentinel-3 satellites and products is on the CDSE website: https://documentation.dataspace.copernicus.eu/Data/SentinelMissions/Sentinel3.html
