GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (GK2A) Satellite Fire Detections

The GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (GK2A) is a geostationary meteorological satellite operated by the National Meteorological Satellite Center (NMSC) of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The main mission of the GK2A is to observe atmospheric phenomena over the Asia-Pacific region. The Advance Meteorological Imager (AMI) on board GK2A scans the Earth full disk every 10 minutes and the Korean Peninsula area every 2 minutes. It produces high resolution multi-band imagery and provides continuous monitoring for weather events, including active fires and hotspots.
