A veteran can initiate an Intent To File (ITF) a claim for VBA benefits by initiating a VBA claim via multiple web enabled front ends or by submitting a paper claim to Centralized Mail. Paper ITFs are scanned and submitted via a BGS web service call.1. Find Intent To File by Participant Identifier (2147)ò Look up Intent to File records by Claimant Participant ID or Veteran Participant IDò Return matching Intent to File recordsò Return summary information identifying the Claimant and the Intent To File information2. Find Intent to File by Participant Identifier and Intent to File Type Code (2148)ò Find Intent to File records with an ITF Status Type of ôActiveö that match the provided Claimant ID and ITF Benefit Type (match either Veteran or Claimant Participant ID)ò Return summary information identifying the claimant and the Intent To File summary information3. Insert Intent to File (2150)ò Send data elements and insert a record in the Corporate Intent to File repository ò Set the initial ITF Status Type ò Set the Expiration Date (backend processing by Data Architecture)4.
