| notes | The 10th year of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Egg Transplant Program has just concluded with a much lower hatching success than anticipated. Eggs were transferred from Cape Island, Cape Romain NWR, South Carolina on 24 July and placed in protective wire baskets on 26 July along the D dike crossover behind the primary dune line. Each nest was checked in the early morning and late afternoon. Hatchlings were removed daily from the protective baskets and released on the beach. A total of 554 eggs hatched from 15 nests containing 1,259 eggs transplanted from Cape Romain. A hatching success of only 44.0% was attained with the hatching period extending from 2 to 30 days |
