Report of the growth Rate of Alligators on Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge

Growth rates of American alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) at Lacassine NWR were estimated from mark-recapture data. Growth rate (change in length/change in time) showed a decreased linear function of mean total length. Males grew faster than females and Lacassine alligators grew slower than alligators in estuarine habitats. However, the long time frame between captures indicate growth from young to adult and not just a short time frame of recapture of only small alligators
