Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model data sets for the Greater Wake County area, North Carolina, 1981-2070

A Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model was developed to estimate annual recharge for the Greater Wake County Area, North Carolina, for the period 1981 through 2019 and project future estimates from 2020 through 2070. The model was developed as part of a study to assess groundwater availability in the fractured-rock aquifers underlying Wake County. Comparison with annual base-flow estimates from the PART hydrograph separation technique for available years of streamflow record at 6 sites within the model area to annual recharge estimates from the SWB model. Curve number and root-zone depth parameters for the dominant land cover classes (deciduous, evergreen, and mixed forest) were adjusted in the SWB model to manually test sensitivity. The comparison results are included in this model archive and the method is documented in the associated USGS Scientific Investigations Report. This USGS data release contains all the input and output files for the simulations described in the associated model documentation report (https://doi.org/10.3133/sir2021xxxx).
