WV Soils - Soil Survey Geographic Database SSURGO

A detailed, field verified inventory of the kinds and distribution of soils on the landscape. This data set is generally the most detailed level of soil geographic data prepared by soil scientists from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, as part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey. In West Virginia SSURGO is generally mapped at 1:24,000 scale with some areas mapped at 1:12,000. The map extent for a Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) data set is a soil survey area, which may consist of a county, multiple counties, or parts of multiple counties. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information.
