| notes | In 2010 the coastal areas of the Florida Panhandle were severely impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and subsequent cleanup efforts. As part of the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) plan to restore natural resources and habitats to their pre-spill condition, St. Vincent Island (the primary component of the St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge) was selected as one of the sites for the protection of shorebird/seabird breeding habitat through fencing, monitoring, surveillance and stewarding. Activities were conducted under protocol established by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and data collected was entered into the Florida Shorebird Database. |
