Indonesia LESTARI Landscape Baseline Analysis 1990-2012

This analysis was conducted to determine a baseline level of greenhouse gas emissions due to landscape degradation and deforestation from 1990 to 2012 for the six landscapes where LESTARI implemented activities. These landscapes were: Leuser, Katingan-Kahayan, Lorentz Lowlands, Mappi – Bouven Digoel, Sarmi, and Cyclops. The Green House Gas (GHG) emission baseline for the USAID LESTARI project was calculated using the Government of Indonesia (GOI) Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL) methodology. Users of this data should familiarize themselves with this methodology available at https://redd.unfccc.int/files/frel_submission_by__indonesia_final.pdf. Official GOI land use data and peat distribution data was used to calculate these changes that led to GHG emissions. This data was accessed through project partners for the purpose of defining the baselines, and measuring GHG reductions in LESTARI supported landscapes as a result of all stakeholders and managers improving management. LESTARI does not claim that these results were solely due to the project. GOI data is not publicly available.
