Cultural Resources Theme Strategic Plan FY25-FY27

The FGDC cultural resource spatial data transfer standards are designed to provide a framework for federal, state, tribal and local agencies to follow when sharing cultural resource spatial data to fulfill their legal responsibilities. The purpose of creating and utilizing such a standard is to consolidate the spatial representations of resources and integrate this data with the existing descriptive attributedatabases. Following the standards will significantly enhance our collective ability to manage and share cultural resource data in a meaningful way. The primary benefit of the standards remains the organization and documentation of cultural resource data, promoting data sharing. These data sets provide feature geometry that is compliant with ISO 19107:2003, Geographic Information – Spatial schema and is intended to be supplemented with attributes maintained by other external database systems.
