Exxon Valdez Oil Spill - Habitat Acquisitions Large Parcels

The Large Parcel Evaluation began on March 18, 1993 with the mailing of letters to 90 landowners of large parcels within the EVOS boundary. Thirty-two land owners responded expressing interest in having their land considered. Based upon the response and evaluation, eighty one parcels were identified for further evaluation. Parcel boundaries were based on both ecological factors and ownership. Parcels larger than one thousand acres were evaluated and ranked. These parcels were evaluated, scored and ranked as high, moderate or low. Over 850,000 acres were evaluated in this manner. Once the parcel boundary was determined, the parcels were subjected to detailed evaluation against a set of Evaluation/Ranking Criteria. The evaluation determined: The degree of linkage for injured resources and services to specific parcels; and The potential for benefit that implementation of habitat protection on specific parcels would have on each linked resource and service. Negotiations between the Trustees and the land owners continue through 1996.
