Forest Carnivore Inventory in North Cascades National Park tabular data

Inventory of forest carnivore species and distribution tabular data for North Cascades National Park, 2003-2005. We investigated the potential occurrence of forest carnivores in North Cascades National Park Service Complex from late January to mid-May in 2003 and 2004. We sampled 39 blocks that were each 4mi2 with 2 camera stations in each block (78 individual cameras). From 2,184 operable camera/nights we recorded 1,734 identifiable photos of 13 mammal and 5 bird species. American marten (Martes americana) and spotted skunk (Spilogale gracilis) were the most frequently recorded carnivore species, found in 64% (1,125 photos) and 23% (313 photos) of the sampling blocks, respectively. No detections were made of fisher, wolverine or lynx. Sample size and safety constraints may have limited our ability to detect these more elusive and rare carnivore species.

The 2003-2004 effort was continued during 2005 with funding from Seattle City Light. These tabular data are presented separately from the 2003-2004 data, but the same protocol was used to collect the 2005 observations.
