Soil-Water-Balance model for the eastern part of the Arbuckle-Simpson aquifer, south-central Oklahoma, 2019–22

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) and the Oka' Institute, constructed a Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model of the eastern part of the Arbuckle-Simpson aquifer in south-central Oklahoma. The SWB model was used to estimate recharge to the eastern part of the Arbuckle-Simpson aquifer between January 2019 and December 2022 for development of a water budget as part of a hydrologic investigation to compare phase 1 (2003-08) and phase 2 (2018-23) studies. The SWB model was used to estimate the amount of recharge entering the unconfined part of the eastern part of the Arbuckle-Simpson aquifer for use in the water budget. The SWB model was run only for the years 2019 through 2022 of the phase 2 period because most of the groundwater well data collection in phase 2 started in 2019 (these water level data were used for the change in groundwater storage analysis), and at the time the SWB code was run for this report, the climate data for the year 2023 were not available yet. This USGS data release contains input and output files for the SWB model described in the larger work citation (https://doi.org/10.3133/sir2025-5011). The data files that were used in the interpretation of model results and the associated model documentation report are included in the ancillary folder of this data release.
